Head Up!

by Marie Rennard

Polesy (Polésie) **

(Swans - October 20, 2008)

They were sailing blind
All around were the winds
Fighting for influence on waves
Once up, twice down the tide

South was the sand
Dry waters, heavy sun and storks by the hundred
East was the Bareland
West,
West was the dream, soft lies

And North
They knew North was the sake
But they were sailing blind
Once up, twice down the tide

Then, from the skies fell a compass
Ho Lord, what a relief!
However, North is so cold
Sake? Who cares for sake?
Let's have a drink and head straight west, boys
Anything else would be nonsense.
