Ethics And Priorities: Perspectives On Justice

by Scott Orlovsky

Prose Poem

December 1, 2003

Justice is no longer innocent
the Attorney General concealed her breast
baptized her in the cloth of self-awareness
now she knows the nature of good and evil
and must win the battle over evil
no matter what the cost
will he decide next to remove Justice's blindfold?
then she would be able to actively
seek out heretical dissenters
like an inquisitor where suspicion alone
will determine guilt behind closed doors

Justice is auctioned at Bush campaign fundraising dinners
He attended over 100 in the last year
$2000 per ticket
more than halfway to his goal
of $170 million to buy the election in 2004
the Bush campaign even sent a letter to New York fundraisers
with FAQs for the big-wig donators
and one of the Q & A's read:
Q: "Can I use my personal aircraft for campaign business?"
A: "No, you may not use your personal aircraft for campaign business.
Corporate aircraft may be used, but only if each person boarding the
plane pays the equivalent of a first-class airplane ticket." (1)

over 100 fundraising dinners attended
but not a single funeral of the over 300
United States service men and women
killed in Iraq
"Bring em' on!" because Bush does not care
about American lives lost
as long as he can carve the Thanksgiving
no-bid corporate contract turkey

Justice cannot be trifled with human rights
in a born-again administration
Justice does not concern herself with
the growing numbers of wounded and dead
in the bunkers of a shadow government
Justice claims to be for all —
all those that have at least 7 digits
in their bank account
and a personal relationship with Jesus

there will never be peace and human prosperity
without the recognition and practice
of universal human justice
